Instagram Wrapped: Build Your Own Year in Review
Spotify has Wrapped — your Instagram has the same story hiding in your data. Here is how to turn your export into a shareable recap, safely.
Every December, Spotify Wrapped takes over feeds. People love seeing their year summed up in a few colorful slides. Your Instagram has the same kind of story waiting inside it — you just have to know where to look.
What an Instagram “Wrapped” actually is
There is no official Wrapped feature from Instagram. What people mean is a personalized recap built from your activity: your standout posts, the followers who showed up most, your messaging highlights, and how your circle changed over the year.
All of that lives in your data export — the same file you can download from Instagram in a couple of taps.
A warning about “Wrapped generator” sites
Around the end of every year, a wave of “Instagram Wrapped” websites appears. Many are traps. They show you a flashy login form, ask for your Instagram username and password, and then either hijack your account or invent fake statistics to keep you sharing.
A real recap never needs your password. If a site asks you to log in to Instagram, leave.
The safe way to make yours
Because everything you need is already in your export, you can build an honest recap without handing over any credentials:
- Download your Instagram data in JSON format (Settings → Accounts Center → Download your information).
- Open Unfollowo and drop in the
.zip. - Your stats are calculated locally, right in your browser.
You get a recap based on your actual data — not numbers a sketchy site made up — and nothing is uploaded anywhere.
What stories your data can tell
Once your file is parsed, the highlights start to emerge:
- Your most loyal followers — the people who consistently engage.
- Who joined and who left over the period you’re looking at.
- Your messaging patterns — who you talk to most.
- Your follower-to-following balance and how it shifted.
Put together, these paint a clearer picture of your year than any single screen in the app.
Make it shareable, keep it private
The fun of Wrapped is sharing it. The difference here is that you choose exactly what to post — the underlying data never leaves your device. You get the bragging rights without the privacy trade-off.
So before the next year-end hype cycle hits, you already know the move: grab your export, run it through a tool that respects your password, and enjoy your story on your own terms.
